There are many options available to you if you're interested in applying for the KCPD. There are four options available: Professional training for recruits, Drivers training or Leadership academy. Recruit training

To qualify for Kansas City Police Academy recruit training, all interested applicants must take a polygraph examination. The applicant must have a high-school diploma or GED and be at least 21 years of age. The applicant must also meet the requirements to be a citizen of the United States, and a Kansas City resident at the time of hiring. Potential officers must be physically and mentally fit and pass a background check, psychological and medical exam. After completing the training, they are eligible to become a sworn KCPD police officer.

The Kansas City Police Academy's 174th officer class is currently training for the field. The Missouri Department of Public Safety's Peace Officer Standards and Training program has certified the academy’s instructors. They have many years of experience in the real world and have a background working in law enforcement. High levels of dedication and commitment are required for recruit training at the Academy.

Professional training

The Kansas City Police Department offers professional education in a range of fields, including patrol and criminal investigation. The department has many opportunities for officers to advance in their careers. Special units include sex crimes, domestic violence, crimes against children, gang violence, and vehicular crimes. There are also periodic trainings for the public. Women might be interested in the Women Safety Seminar.


The Missouri Department of Public Safety has certified the academy's instructors through its Peace Officer Standards and Training program. This program is designed to provide officers with the necessary qualifications to be law enforcement officers. For eligibility to the Academy, applicants must register with a law enforcement agency. Once accepted, non-POST applicants will receive full employment in a police department between the start of the Academy and the start of their field training.

Drivers training

New recruits to the KCPD complete 40 hours of driver training during their first year at the police academy. This includes classroom instruction and supervised road driving. Students are also provided with information about vehicle registration and insurance by PAL instructors. The academy is strongly committed to driver training. It hopes that some of its student pilots will go on to the police force. How can they make the most from the experience for new recruits? Kansas City Police Department oversees the operation of the academy. The academy offers continuing education classes, driver's and firearms training, as well as traffic safety courses. The academy also rents its facilities to other law enforcement agencies such as the Jackson County Department of Corrections or the U.S. The Platte County Sheriff's Department is also covered by the Platte County Postal Inspectors OIG.

Leadership academy

The Leadership Academy at Kansas City Police Department helps officers to develop the skills and attributes needed to be a leader. Participants learn leadership skills, communicate well with others and gain valuable insight into the dynamic of law enforcement. They engage in a series if practical exercises to help them become better police officers. Police recruits also learn six common calls of service at the academy.

Arbinger is leading the workshop at the Kansas City Police Department. He is joined by other top thinkers. FOP officers and department heads at the KCPD make up the group of participants. The workshop is also attended by neutral people. Although it starts off hostile, the atmosphere quickly becomes friendly. Participants shared that they learned a lot through the program, and that they were eager to apply it to work. The workshop ultimately helped officers to be more motivated, happier, and more productive. It also improved relationships with members of the community.

How to use pepper spray in self-defense
